Overview

The authority submitted its Sector Pathways Review to the Minister for Climate Change and Energy on 1 August 2024. The review of the potential technology transition and emissions pathways that best support Australia’s transition to net zero emissions by 2050 considers 6 sectors–electricity and energy, transport, industry and waste, agriculture and land, resources, and the built environment.

Requested by the Australian Parliament, the review will inform the development of the government’s Net Zero Plan which will lay out and extend Australia’s action on climate change.

The Climate Change Authority is also preparing advice for the government on progress towards meeting Australia’s 2030 emissions reduction target and potential 2035 targets. The submissions received in response to this issues paper and the findings of this review provide valuable information to inform this work.

The authority would like to thank the many individuals and organisations who contributed time and expertise in responding to this issues paper.
